Meet Dr. Dawson
Medicine is personal to me.
Dr. Dawn R. Dawson is a psychiatrist in Colorado Springs whose practice brings together psychiatry, brain health, functional medicine and longevity, aesthetics and healthy living. This is the person behind it.
Her story
I am no different than anyone else.
Dr. Dawson has lived through significant challenges of her own. She does not say that to set herself apart. She says it because it is the reason her work matters to her. Those experiences could have broken her spirit. Instead they propelled her forward, and they shaped what she wants for the people she works with.
To create their dreams. To feel at peace. To navigate difficult circumstances. To understand themselves. To adapt. To keep growing.
Navigating uncertainty is daunting. Her response is not to stand above it handing down instructions. She approaches patients as partners, looks at the challenge from multiple perspectives, and helps create a thoughtful path forward.
Why so much training?
She worried she would not know enough.
When Dr. Dawson began medical training, she worried she might not know enough to adequately help people. Her answer was to keep training.
She completed approximately six years of training beyond medical school, a decision she describes as one of the best she ever made. Helping patients and families through difficult challenges has become one of the most rewarding parts of her life.

Philosophy
“I am in the world with you.”
Life is complicated. Health is complicated. People are complicated. Dr. Dawson’s approach is to understand those challenges together, evaluate them from multiple perspectives, and create a thoughtful path forward.
It is a partnership, not a hierarchy. She brings the training, the experience and the curiosity. You bring the life that the plan has to fit into. The work happens between those two things.
A healthy brain is a flexible brain
Complex problems often require thinking differently.
One hallmark of a healthy brain is flexibility. Dr. Dawson practices what she evaluates: she intentionally exposes herself to different perspectives and different disciplines, because the first way of looking at a problem is not always the one that solves it.
She describes herself, without apology, as someone who thinks outside the box. Her clinical thinking draws from all of the following, on purpose.
- 01 Formal medical education
- 02 Psychiatry
- 03 Years of clinical experience
- 04 Continuing education
- 05 New certifications
- 06 Different disciplines
- 07 Different ways of approaching problems
Outside the office
Horses, patience, and a different kind of confidence.
Dr. Dawson keeps horses and works with a professional trainer. Out of that comes a future Equine Experience: riding instruction, horsemanship and, in time, opportunities for qualified participants to work with her horses. Details will follow once the program is finalized.
What would you do with your life if you were not afraid to fail?
It is Dr. Dawson’s honor to assist her patients in creating their life. Start the conversation.
